Cost

What's a realistic budget for a kitchen remodel?

Angi's 2026 average is about $27,000 nationally, but a light refresh and a complete rebuild are very different jobs. Decide what has to change first, then see where it falls in the cost guide.

Does a remodel pay for itself at resale?

Rarely in full, though smaller projects tend to do better. National estimates from the 2025 Cost vs. Value report show minor remodels doing far better than major ones. Treat that as a guide, since it won't apply exactly to your house.

How much extra should I set aside?

A common suggestion is 10% to 20% of the budget. In a very old house, plan toward the top end, as walls can hide old wiring and plumbing.

Products

What cabinet material copes with humid summers?

Quality plywood boxes generally handle moisture swings well. Solid wood doors move a little with the seasons, which is normal. The bigger factor is usually a working range hood and a dry kitchen.

Which flooring works over an uneven old floor?

It depends on how uneven it is. Luxury vinyl plank and tile both need a reasonably flat base, so some leveling is common. Ask what will be done to prepare the floor, and what's underneath it first.

Should I buy appliances before the cabinets?

Choose them early, even if you don't buy yet. Appliance sizes set the cabinet layout, and a few inches matter in a narrow kitchen.

The project

How long does a kitchen remodel take?

A refresh might take a few weeks. A full remodel often takes a couple of months or more of work, plus planning and waiting for cabinets beforehand. Ask for a written schedule.

Can I stay in my house during the work?

Most people do, with a temporary setup in another room. In a small rowhome, ask about dust control and how materials will come in. If your home was built before 1978, ask how lead safety will be handled, particularly with young children at home.

When do I need a permit?

Moving walls, adding circuits and adding plumbing fixtures usually call for one. Cosmetic work often doesn't. Rules vary by municipality, so check with your local office. The town pages list who to call.

Should I test for radon when remodeling?

Lebanon County falls in the EPA's highest radon potential zone, though that's a prediction and doesn't tell you about your own house. The EPA's Pennsylvania map shows the zones. Testing is cheap, and it's good to know before you seal up a floor.

Calling

Who will I reach when I call?

A local kitchen remodeler who serves your area. The about page explains how calls work.

How do I check a remodeler before I hire?

Check their registration, license and insurance yourself. The how it works page shows you how in Pennsylvania.

Why is there no form on this site?

Because a conversation works better for kitchens. You call and talk it through. There's nothing to fill out.

Are calls recorded?

Calls may be recorded. The privacy policy has the details.
